On Being in the Forest
On Being in the Forest
Jane Austin
CA$500.00

100 word Artist Statement about the work: My submissions are about trees in the natural landscape. Much of my work is involved with the environment. My videos are not didactic; they are experiential. I affect the viewer through the use of long clips containing movements that cause a shift to a meditative mood. This is enhanced by a sense of beauty and an aural space developed from ambient sound tracks. There are no stories: my videos are purely visual and aural events. Humans increasingly live in urban centres without access to wild places. My videos are an attempt to give people an engaged experience of the natural world.

After the Fire
Judy Goode
CA$1,800.00

100 word Artist Statement about the work: I enjoy painting strong birch trees, often with bleak backgrounds reflecting both the durability of the forest and the fragility of the environment.

100 word Artist Statement about the work: Traditional landscape painting conveys a seemingly neutral perspective: an idyllic view according to some. Spaces and geographies were constructed from one ‘universal’ point of view, communicating clearly defined spatial divisions and exclusions. As a result of these definitive documents, other landscapes and spaces have been obscured by and into history. I re-envisage this genre through assemblies of disparate materials and unconventional processes, combating a staid uniformity of expression. Pluralities of aesthetic and material voices speak poetically, challenging notions of worth and value. Processes allude to aggression and destruction, but also, to the creation of another type of space, or perspective.

The Age of Reason
The Age of Reason
Charline Collette

100 word Artist Statement about the work: As an artist, I translate concepts into materials, while not being literal in my interpretation. In an anti-anthropocentric approach, I project digitally manipulated images onto a hooked paper surface. The hooked surface receives the image and alters it, but is untouched and undisturbed by it. The light creates illusions on the surface that play hide and seek with the viewer, hiding and revealing details, information, a story. Having a minimal impact on the space that we occupy has been a source of inspiration for these images.

Transcending Through Life
Transcending Through Life
I-Chun Jenkins
CA$3,900.00

100 word Artist Statement about the work: This particular piece of work is a reflection of my past life and the paths I have taken or chosen to end up where I am today, both as an artist and as a person. The work flows from left to right and describes my life from the time of my crazy youthfulness, to a point in my life where there were very difficult and out of control periods, to the place I am now that is calm and somewhat in control of my destination.

Plastique Morte
Leigh Stevenson
CA$50.00

100 word Artist Statement about the work: Plastique Morte. A graveyard of tributes. Loss and permanence. The sadness of the loss and the sadness of the longevity of the discarded, now anonymous floral remebrances past. Taillebourg, France

Virtual Voyage (Pandemic Plein Air)
Peter Adams
CA$725.00

100 word Artist Statement about the work: Recently, I have begun making paintings within the uniquely beautiful packaging of Apple products. I see these paintings as a comment on the ubiquitousness of consumer packaging of all kinds and as an acknowledgement that (the essentially useless) packaging of many products is sometimes part of the appeal of consuming the product itself. I also see these pieces as symbolizing our changing relationship to the natural world. Increasingly, we experience the larger world through miraculous pieces of technology.
